It is a small village situated 8 km north from the city Poprad.
It was founded by German colonists in the first half of the 13-th century. It was a part of the Spiš Sas community and was the first village that accepted the Protestant religion.
Majority of the local population were farmers, flax producers and wood-cutters (a saw-mill was built here in the 18-th century). A lot of High Tatras guides came from Mlynica between the middle of the 19-th century and the end of the World War 2.
New settlers came after the war to the village from the Vikartovce village as well as from other Slovak villages on the Polish side of the border.
In the village there is originally a Roman-Catholic church from the 13-th century, rebuilt in the Gothic style in the first half of the 15-th century. Inside you will find precious side-altars from the beginning of the 16-th century, designed by Master Paul from Levoča. Another church is an Evangelic one, built in the classicistic style from 1830.
At the cemetery, there are tombs of several famous mountain-guides.
