Huncovce is a typical small village of the Spiš region. It is situated on the road from Poprad to Kežmarok, 8 km northeast from Poprad. A settlement of Puchov culture from the Lathene Age (younger Iron Age) was the ancestor of the village. In the first written reference about the village (1257) it is mentioned as Villa Supch. Originally population consisted mostly of royal dog keepers. Later it consisted of farmers, flax weavers, craftsmen and merchants.
A Rabin school that was founded in the 18-th century was open here till the World War 1. Ernest Bethlenfalvy, a zoologist and publicist (1879 - 1955) lived in the village, too.
In the village, there is a Roman-Catholic church built in the roman style, a former monastery from the middle of the 13-th century. Only a tower remained from the original building. The rest was rebuilt in the gothic style in the 14 - 15th century. The baroque-classicistic interior comes from the 17-th and 19-th century. You can also find here: an Evangelic church that was built in the late classicistic style in the 1859, a building of a former synagogue (built in 1821 in the classicistic style) and a rococo-classicistic curia with a mansard roof from the second half of the 18-th century.
